Next Generation Sequencing - From Genomics to Medicine
About This Event
VGST funded FDP on Next Generation Sequencing – From Genomics to Medicine organized by the Department of Biotechnology, PES University in collaboration with Leucine Rich Bio Private Limited, Bangalore.
Sponsored by
Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST) Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Govt of Karnataka
Background
Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is a massively parallel sequencing technology that offers ultra-high throughput, scalability, and speed. The technology is used to determine the order of nucleotides in entire genomes or targeted regions of DNA or RNA. NGS technologies have a tremendous impact on genomic research and the entire biological field. With its ability to tackle the unsolved challenges unconquered by previous genomic technologies, NGS has unraveled the complexity of the human genome in terms of genetic variations, some of which may be confined to susceptible loci for some common human conditions.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this FDP, participants will be able to
- Understand different Next Generation equencing platforms and analysis tools.
- Apply specific genome assembly algorithms.
- Apply the knowledge for critical analysis of the genome data for biological applications.
